Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, experienced a significant financial setback in the second quarter, recording a loss of $238 million. This comes as the company reorients its strategy back to its core focus on social media, following its previous ventures into cryptocurrency and other areas.
Despite the losses, the company saw an increase in revenue, generating $1.7 million during the quarter, which is more than double the revenue from the same period last year. Kevin McGurn, the new CEO, emphasized that the company would prioritize its social media operations while still pursuing selective projects, such as its anticipated merger with TAE Technologies, a nuclear fusion company.
In an effort to diversify its offerings, Trump Media introduced Truth API, a subscription service designed for financial firms. This service grants early access to posts from Donald Trump and other influential users on Truth Social, with subscription costs ranging from $60,000 to $100,000 per month. Currently, the service has attracted 10 customers, primarily high-frequency trading firms.
At the close of the quarter, the company reported holding over $400 million in cash and short-term investments. Additionally, it possesses around $1.2 billion in bitcoin and related assets, alongside $1 billion in debt from convertible notes set to mature in 2028.
