Lidl Hungary has inaugurated its largest logistics center in the country, situated in Kiskunfélegyháza, following an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million. This new facility is set to enhance the supply chain by servicing around 70 Lidl stores across Hungary. Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the center marks a significant expansion in Lidl’s operations in the region.
The logistics hub, which has already generated more than 400 jobs, is expected to add around 50 additional positions soon. It is equipped with 194 loading docks and a refrigerated section covering 24,000 square meters. The emphasis on sustainability is evident in the facility’s design, featuring a 9,000-square-meter solar installation on the rooftop and a system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating. Additionally, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area has been developed around the logistics center.
This strategic move is anticipated to bolster Lidl’s supply network nationwide, with the facility handling approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily. The logistics center is a crucial component of Lidl’s growth strategy in Hungary, where the company currently operates 220 stores and sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. This development is expected to aid in the retailer’s ongoing expansion and solidify its market presence within the country.
